WHEELOCK JANUARY NEWS

Happy New Year!  - School resumes Thursday, January 2nd. There will be no school on Monday, January 20th in observance of Martin Luther King Day, and students will be released early on Friday, January 24th.

Frosty Five "5"- As winter weather prevails, please make sure students have the appropriate clothing.  Each class has recess at least once a day and we do go outside whenever weather permits.  In order to play in the snow a student will need the Frosty Five: a hat or ear covering, a jacket, snow pants, mittens or gloves, and snow boots.  Please note that students will go outside if they do not have the above-mentioned items, but their play will be restricted to the blacktop area.  Thank you for your help with this. If you have any questions or need some assistance in getting these items, please give us a call.

New Year - New Goal - Being on time is an important life skill.  The school bell rings at 8:20 am.  Students who arrive after 8:25 am are marked tardy.  Being tardy impacts students and staff in many ways.  They may miss morning meeting and important announcements that set the tone for the day.  For some students, this interferes with support services or special programs such as chorus. We understand at times parents need to make appointments that make a student tardy.   As per the school district policy on attendance, tardies do affect attendance and can lead to a student requiring truancy interventions. Please do your best to get your child to school on time each and every day.

Good Neighbors - We have had a number of phone calls from our neighbors on Adams and Elliot Streets with concerns about parking at arrival and dismissal times.  Please help us be courteous neighbors by ensuring you are not parking in, blocking, or turning around in neighborhood driveways.  Thank you for your help with this.

Bus Safety - Sometimes it takes us a long period of time to load afternoon buses- especially on days students are carrying instruments.  Please be aware that you cannot pass a school bus with its red lights flashing and the side stop sign out.  This violates the law and bus drivers can report your license to the police department.
